Christmas Toy Drive
Help make Christmas magical for a child in foster care!
Even contributing one gift helps make sure that a child in foster care receives the Christmas gift they truly want this year. However, it’s not just about making sure a child gets a Christmas gift, it’s about making sure that a child knows that they are truly special and deserving of love and care. Thank you for being a part of Christmas joy!

I am a part of a business or group and we'd like to host a toy drive...
Thank you for helping to bring joy to children and teens this holiday season! Hosting a toy drive through your business, church, or community group is an amazing way to help children in foster care and the families caring for them know that they are loved.
Hosting a toy drive is simple — you may choose to host a “virtual” drive using the Amazon Wish List, or an in-person drive to collect physical gifts. No matter which direction you choose, Hope & Home will help provide you with all the necessary items for a successful toy drive! We can provide collection boxes, signs, flyers, tags to hang on a tree to shop for certain ages, or tags to encourage people to donate using the Amazon Wish List. We’d love to talk with you about what may work best for your business or group.
Please call Hope & Home at 719-575-9887 or simply complete the form linked here to start the conversation. A friendly staff member in your region is happy to talk with you about hosting a toy drive!
Important Note: We will need all toys dropped off to our office locations December 11-15th (Hope & Home staff can also help pick up gifts if needed). We’ve found that toy drives should be in process by December 1st for the best outcome, however, even after the 1st we’re happy to help you host a “virtual drive” using our Amazon Wish List or collect toys at a holiday event. If you’re interested in hosting a virtual drive, please submit this inquiry form and a staff member will be in touch with next steps!
I'd like to give financially...
If you’d prefer to make a financial contribution to the Toy Drive, you have that option! Use the link below to make a donation to Hope & Home specifically for toys for kids in foster care. We will use your donation to purchase items for the Christmas store that are most-loved items for kids this year. Feel free to designate which region you’d like your donation to go towards in the comment section of the giving form and we will make sure your gifts go to kids in that region. You may also mail a check to 4945 N. 30th Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80919 and write “Toy Drive” in the memo line. Thank you!
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you have a Christmas Store, why not do wish lists?
Thanks for asking this question! We host a Christmas Store rather than doing wishes for a variety of reasons.
- We know that the foster parents caring for children know the small likes and dislikes, wishes and hopes of the children in their care the very best. We want the gifts for children in foster care to be picked out with love and the personality of each child in mind.
- At any given time, we have over 250 children in care with our foster families. The goal of foster care is reunification with biological parents, or placement with a relative. That means that children are constantly coming and going. It isn’t possible to coordinate that number of wishes and ensure that no child would get left out. At the same time, children are constantly entering foster care. Statistically, the holidays are a more stressful time for families, and often we receive calls for homes for children right before, and even on, Christmas. With a Christmas store, we can make sure that even if a child enters foster care on Christmas Day we can help make sure they still have gifts to open.
Who benefits from the Christmas Store?
Kids in foster care! Local children in foster care are the recipients of your donation to the toy drive. Not only that, but donations to the Christmas Store also help local foster parents who are working hard to navigate the holidays with the children in their care and help them feel truly special during the Christmas season. Many foster parents reflect that they often don’t feel isolated and seeing the gifts in the Christmas Store remind them that they are not alone and that there are many others out there who are supporting them!
Should I wrap my gift?
Please do not wrap your gift! Since your item will be placed into the Christmas Store it is easier for our families to shop if they can see what’s inside. If you’d like to donate new gift bags, tissue paper, bows or wrapping paper, we do set up a wrapping station for parents to wrap the gifts after they’ve selected the perfect gifts!
Can I buy multiple gifts?
Absolutely! We will take any amount of new toys that you are willing to donate.
What age range do you need gifts for?
There are children in the foster care system ages 0-18 and we have children of all ages in the care of our families so gifts for all ages are welcome.
How will my gift be used?
All gifts are placed in a Christmas Store for families to shop in the days leading up to Christmas. They will pick out special items for the children in their home to be opened at Christmastime! Any leftover gifts after the holidays are placed in Hope & Home’s “Zoondoogle Factory” — a very special “store” where kids can pick out brand-new toys they’ve earned with their Zoondoogle Dollars — a currency unique to Hope & Home! Zoondoogles are used by families with all the children in their home (children in foster care, biological children, or adopted children).
When do I have to have my gift(s) back by?
Please refer to the location where you picked up your tag or the location partnering with us through a toy drive. They may ask you to have your gifts dropped off at their location by a particular date. If you are dropping off gifts or mailing them to any of our offices, please ensure they reach us no later than December 15th (earlier is very helpful though as well!).
Can I find out who receives my gift?
Unfortunately, due to confidentiality surrounding children in foster care we cannot disclose who receives your gift, but please know that it was received with joy!
Can I donate gently used toys?
We only place brand new items into the Christmas Store. Children in foster care so often receive “leftovers” and second-hand items and it is important that they receive brand new items at Christmas. It’s not about the item being new, it’s about communicating to each child that they are not forgotten, that they are valued, and that they are deserving of love and care.
We do accept donations of used (please ensure they are in like-new condition) clothing, shoes, infant/toddler equipment, etc. throughout the year in order to share those items with families as they are needed. We are happy to accept your donation of used items for those purposes.
What are some gift ideas?
- any “trendy” item: if it’s on the wish list of your child, grandchild, niece or nephew, chances are it’s on the wish list of our kids too!
- craft kits, art kits, science kits, etc.
- electronic items: kindles, game players, headphones, mp3 players
- personal care items for teens: straighteners, curling irons, spa kits, makeup, etc.
- dolls and action figures (especially dolls of various ethnicities)
- building sets/blocks (especially legos!)
- sporting goods, basketballs, footballs, etc.
- board games for a variety of ages
- gift cards to Target, WalMart, Amazon, fast food ($5, $10, $25, $50) Please no amounts larger than $50/gift card
My gift arrived late, should I still donate it?
Absolutely! We accept donations year round, and are incredibly grateful for any new items, regardless of the season!
I don't have time to purchase a gift, is there another way to help?
Yes, you are welcome to make a financial contribution to support the ongoing work of Hope & Home. You can make a financial donation online at https://hopeandhome.org/donate/
What age range has the highest need for gifts?
We are especially in need of gifts for kids ages 10 and up! See the gift ideas question above for some great gift ideas! This age also really enjoys shopping for themselves, so while a gift card may not be the most fun gift to pick out, it’s definitely one that you can be sure a tween or teen will be excited to receive!
I'd like to speak to someone about hosting a toy drive or have other questions
