Director of Education
Vanessa was born and raised as a Midwestern farm girl in Wisconsin. She grew up in a large family and is the seventh of 11 children. When her father started a construction company, Vanessa was part of the crew for five years. Before moving to Colorado, she also worked at numerous places from Applebee’s to Starbucks, and sold windows and doors.
Vanessa landed in Colorado Springs after visiting her sister and falling in love with the city. She moved to Colorado in April of 2008. She began working at Hope & Home shortly after and quickly fell in love with Hope & Home’s mission.
She and Michael strongly believe that they are called to minister to the families and children here.
Vanessa met her husband and coworker, Michael, at Hope & Home. They were married just before Christmas in Hope & Home’s chapel on a magical wintery night in December of 2010. She became an instant mom to Adam (born in 2001), a creative, bright and fun-loving boy who often spends his after-school hours at Hope & Home.
For Vanessa, working at Hope & Home is more than a job. She and Michael strongly believe that they are called to minister to the families and children here. She began the first month of her career at Hope & Home doing childcare and overseeing Jericho Java, the in-house coffee bar run by our teens. She then moved through the organization doing reception, events coordination, visitation and family support, and marketing director; she currently serves as director of education for the agency.
Outside of work, Vanessa loves weekend DIY projects including making furniture, crafting, knitting, and numerous home renovation projects.
