Why Foster Care?

When safety isn’t possible at home, kids need a safe and loving place to go. This is why quality foster parents make all the difference.

12

Each day in Colorado, approximately 12 children and teens enter foster care.

2,000+

Today, there are 2,159 children and teens growing up with a foster family in Colorado.

900

Last year, just over 900 Colorado kids in foster care were adopted.

Why do kids and teens
go into foster care?

The children who go into foster care are the victims of severe abuse and/or neglect at the hands of their parent(s).

What are the effects of abuse and neglect?

When a child is removed by the Department of Human Services it is in response to an imminent threat to their life and safety. These are just a few of the horrific burdens kids carry with them into the foster care system.

  • Broken Bones
  • Severe malnourishment
  • Unspeakable emotional trauma

Isn't this the government's responsibility?

Hope & Home is reimbursed for one monthly visit by a staff member to each of our foster homes. Recruitment, licensing, training and support relies entirely on donor contributions. Our families constantly tell us that Hope & Home’s commitment to excellence in all of these areas truly makes the difference in their ability to weather the ups and downs of foster care.

Every child deserves to be a part of a loving family

True healing happens in the context of a loving, safe, nurturing family. As a community, we cannot afford to be passive in defending “the least of these.”
